PADDY, PENNY, PRU AND YOGI, a loving and tight-knit family group, came to C.L.A.W.S. in the spring of 2015. They were then about 4 months old, had never been handled and were "climbing the walls” to escape their carers.
They were very naughty when they were kittens delighting in upending their water bowl, quickly followed by their biscuits and when they were feeling particularly daring their litter tray too finishing off their game by paddling through the resulting mess. That is how they came to be known collectively and affectionately as the Hooligans!
Their rehabilitation has been a challenge but since they were transferred to the new enclosure early in 2017 to join Cassie, Joules and Violet they have come on by leaps and bounds the resulting freedom allowing them to run off their high spirits without causing chaos. They are now friendly youngsters that enjoy being made a fuss of.
Each morning they await the arrival of their carer with breakfast and ask for a stroke. On cold or wet mornings Pru stays in her basket and has breakfast in bed (hence the epithet Princess !!)
They enjoy company and gather round their visitors expectantly hoping for – can you guess what ? Yogi in particular is very friendly sitting beside the carer who spends most time with them with his front legs over her knee. This demonstration of affection is very touching but she is wise enough to know that it may have an ulterior motive. By placing himself over her knee he is in a better position to search her pockets. He finds what he has been looking for – treats ! And they are all given some.
Cassie remained behind when Joules and Violet were transferred first to the isolation unit and then to the Golden Oldies pen The youngsters have taken a real shine to her and can often be seen rubbing noses and playing together. We now call her "Auntie” Cassie.
They are now 9 years old (where have those years gone ?) Despite all the progress that has been made over the years any attempt to constrain them still results in them reverting to their wild ways.
They would never adapt to a normal domestic environment. And that is why they will stay with C.L.A.W.S.
